EVOLVING STRATEGIES
This week’s opportunity to evolve your strategy
Digital sales strategy of 3 simple updates to your home page
Your home page is the digital home of your business, and it’s usually the most high traffic page on your site. It’ll drive organic traffic from search engines and it’s the spot people view to get information before deciding they’re finding what they need or they leave.
This affects both your bounce rates and SEO. The longer people are on your site the lower your bounce rates, and the more traffic search engines will send to your site. It identifies there’s value people are getting so it sends more traffic to your site.
There are 1.13B websites on the Internet as of 2023 and 82% of them are inactive, which means they’re not being updated. By making simple updates, and AB testing to continuously make improvements for your customers you’re ahead of the game.
How to apply this:
What you should takeaway and apply to your digital sales strategy:
Top of page banner
Home page banner
Products above the fold
Top of page banner
The top banner is a stripe that should be used as a surprise and delight opportunity. It’s to draw attention from your audience and having something up all the time will likely lose it’s importance.
Use this for the biggest updates you have. Such as:
Special promos
Updates to your site or business that doesn’t happen often
Special news - I.e. Virgin Plus uses it to update customers on long distance fee waivers in specific regions
Home page banner
Research shows having multiple banners reduces the impact of the information on it, and the more you have the less customers will see with each rotation.
For example: If there are 5 spots on your home page banner; spot 1 and 2 will receive the most views. 3, 4 and 5 will see the least.
Viewership drastically decreases after spot 2, and average CTRs are less than 1%. Avoid lots of work and content creation for little to no value. Stick to no more than 1 to 2 rotations on your home page banner.
Products above the fold
Always have product lines readily available for customers to easily access before they even have to scroll. Virgin offers all product lines and access to their promo section to make the experience as great as possible and seamless.
Make it easy for the customers to both research and shop based on what they are looking for. The more seamless the easier it is for customers to shop and bring in more sales.
